With summer quickly approaching and the weather getting warmer, I look forward to backyard gatherings with my friends and family! Everyone loves outdoor parties but the thought of hosting can sound nerve-racking for some people. Here are a few tips to help ease the stress of hosting a fabulous outdoor party.

1. Serve great food and refreshing beverages.

We all know the heart of a great party is the food and drinks. Here are a few pictures of recipes that I gathered, I hope to try them all soon! (You can find all these recipes and more on our Pinterest Board here)

My favorite summer dessert is grilled peaches with honey and ice cream. Here are a few dessert ideas to get your tummy rumbling!

Keep your guests refreshed with a variety of drink options. You can have lots of fun finding creative ways to display your drink options. (You can find all the ideas and more on our Pinterest Board here)

2. Play backyard Games.

Everyone loves a little friendly competition. Lawn games are a great way to get your guest moving and interacting with one another.  My husband and I love inviting our friends over for a game of bocce ball. When we get sick of bocce ball (which doesn’t happen often) we move onto other games such as horseshoes, croquet or ladder ball. If you have the space and willing participants, you could even have a tournament!

3. Set the Mood with Lighting
One of my favorite parts of summer is the long days, but if your party extends past the sun, you will want to be prepared with plenty of lighting. There are lots of great ways to illuminate your backyard. Simple outdoor light strands and lanterns are a great start.

And since we all like to be creative and can sometimes go overboard, here are a few other lighting options if you are feeling inspired!

Citronella candles are always a great addition for light and to keep the mosquitos away. While some citronella candles don’t have the best fragrance, you can find candles like the ones below that both smell great and add color to your yard. We have Lemon Bergamot, Lime Verbena, Garden Sage, Fresh Rain, and Orange Blossom all available here.

You can fight the mosquitos and add light to your backyard with tiki torches also. There are plenty of citronella tiki torches you can purchase, but I made my own using recycled wine bottles, plus it’s a great excuse to open a bottle of wine!  You can learn how to make them here.

4. Don’t Overthink it.
Your backyard party may not be perfect in your mind, but the point is to have fun and spend time with friends and family! Try to sit back and enjoy the people you are with, everyone will appreciate your hard work and the chance to get together.

Happy Entertaining!

Our Furniture posted by Julie Rinehart

In the past, whenever I heard the word ‘recliner’ I immediately thought of the huge brown recliner that my grandpa had. It took up a large portion of the room, it would squeak when anyone sat in it, and it had a footrest that shot up so fast you had to hold on to your seat when you wanted to recline. So you can imagine my surprise the first time I sat in the new American Leather comfort recliners! I can say with certainty that the revolution of recliners has come a very long way since the days when I sat in my grandpa’s recliner. I was shocked that such an elegant looking chair could be so comfortable.

The new generation of comfort recliners is a clear favorite here at Nantucket Home. With so many size and style options, it’s easy to find a recliner that fits everyone. The recliner is available in four different sizes and seven different styles. With over 300 fabric and leather options, you can easily find an option that matches your space.

And since all of us here are pet lovers from large families, how could we not be impressed with fabric and leather options that are great for animals and kids alike. Our showroom dog Bailey seems a bit partial to the leather chair:

With Father’s day just around the corner, what better way to tell your dad, grandpa, uncle, or son just how much you appreciate him than with the gift of ultimate comfort. I bet their old recliners don’t offer four types of adjustment! They will be impressed when they can adjust the back, then the footrest, followed by the headrest pillow and then the height (via the adjustable base). Warning: he may be too comfortable to get up and help with the chores, but maybe – just  for Father’s day – we would be willing to let that slide.

Well, these are just a few of the reasons we LOVE our comfort recliners. But don’t take our word for it, stop by our showroom and test it out for yourself!
